Picture from the Past

This week's 'Picture from the Past' in the Kincardineshire Observer features Laurencekirk Scouts and Cubs around the year 1962.

Readers are challenged to put names to all 49 faces, many of which are still very familiar in Laurencekirk today. The paper says, "There is an upsurge in interest in Scouting in Laurencekirk at present, reflected by the campaign to build a new Scout Hall."

The picture was provided by local man Tom Welsh, who has also given us a copy of the group's Gang Show programme from the same year. It played 3 nights in Laurencekirk and 2 at the Memorial Hall in Fordoun, and included such delights as 'A Hiking We Will Go', 'A Dash of Scotch', 'Stand By for Your Medical' and 'The Temperance Seven'.
