Laurencekirk woman has winning Touch

the winning touchLaurencekirk woman Helen Ritchie was given some pre-Christmas cheer on Friday night when she won the first prize of an ipod Touch in the Scout Group’s annual raffle.

A quick phone call ensured Helen was at the hall to receive her prize before the group’s raffle draw and family party was over.

In spite of disruption cause by the recent poor weather, the raffle raised an amazing £1402 towards a new roof for the Scout Hall. Chairperson Avril Nicoll thanked all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their families for their efforts. She paid particular tribute to Lesley Young for organising the raffle and selling hundreds of tickets to customers of Scotmid, to Scout Brandon Munn who sold 250 via his dad and the Gryphon oil rig, and to Laurencekirk Post Office whose customers purchased a further 50 tickets.

Avril expressed the group’s gratitude for the ongoing generosity and support of local businesses who provided a fabulous array of prizes for the raffle. Donations came from Scotrail, Mearns Motors, What’s for tea tonight? farm shop, Mearns Fitness, Elizabeth Havens, Mearns Hardware, Laurencekirk Post Office, Michies, Asda, Lynn’s Barbers, Muffins, Bakery Bliss, Kirstie Abbey Photography, Thistle Kids, Mistletoe and Castleton Farm Shop. The pool of prizes was boosted even further by donations from parents. A full list of prizewinners is available on request.

The group is carrying out a staged refurbishment of its hall, and is currently working towards raising £21,000 for a new roof.
